Sudden neck pain. - Question: Sydney, our Siberian Husky mix woke up at 1am this morning whining in pain. Her head and neck leaning to the left, only turning to walk in that direction. My wife and I have no idea what brought on this sudden behavior. She seems to experience pain when her head turns right, up down and left seem fine. We took her to our local vet this morning. The vet indicated that her tempeture was 101.5 (normal), she had no sign of ear infection and blood is normal. He gave her a shot of steroids and thought that she might have had a blood clot on the brain, suggesting that we see a specialist if her condition persists. She has no tremors and exhibits no twitching or other lack of motor function. Sydney only seems to be in pain when her head is forced into a right facing position and after sitting in place for a while has some difficulty walking and navigating stairs. She seems to have a good appetite and is alert.
Both my wife and I are puzzled by the vet's diagnosis of a brain clot, thinking that it's possible that Sydney has suffered a sprain or sleep in an awkward position creating stiffness and neck pain.
