Applying Eye Medication
Placing eye meds properly is important for pet health.Instilling eye medication can be difficult for even your veterinarian, yet it is an important pet care skill. Remove any debris with a warm cloth or cotton ball moistened with water. Check the instructions on the bottle for dosage. Use one hand to hold the bottle between thumb and index and place the other under your dog’s jaw to support the head. Tilt the head back and, to prevent blinking, hold the eyelids open.
Hold the bottle close to the eye but DON’T touch the surface of the eye. Squeeze the drops onto the eye and once the drops are in, release the head. With ointment, apply 1/4 inch to the lower lid. Your dog will blink, spreading the medication over the eye’s surface.
